St. Max CYO sports are open to all Catholic children who are members of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish AND are registered in the parish school, the parish PREP program or enrolled in a private Catholic school; or if not a member of the parish or are not Catholic, attend the parish school.  

Catholic children in grades 7 through high school must have had their sacraments (baptism, eucharist and confirmation) or be in the process of receiving them in order to be eligible.

OUR ROLE IN THE PARISH

The St. Maximilian Kolbe CYO is more than just a sports program, it is a ministry.  It is just one component of the parish’s comprehensive youth ministry program which allows our youth to grow in their relationship with God and come to better understand themselves and the Catholic faith. 
 
Through a focus on SPIRITUAL GROWTH, SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY, and EXCELLENCE IN SPORTS, our goal is to help our children use their God-given talents to play sports, while at the same time carrying out the ministry of Jesus Christ.  In partnership together with parents, coaches, priests, teachers, and adult leaders we provide a variety of sports programs that:
 

• Employ healthy and enjoyable competition within the sports programs to promote the sharing of gospel values among athletes, parents, and coaches.
• Assist parish leadership in nourishing the emotional, spiritual, social, and physical needs of young people.
• Encourage young people to appreciate the gifts they possess, and challenge them to share these gifts with their community.
• Allow youth to witness the life of Christian discipleship in their coaches and adult leaders.
• Encourage youth to become responsible members in their faith community.

We hope that our youth will have an experience in CYO that they take with them for the rest of their lives.  Our CYO coaches and adult volunteers work hard to make sure students have meaningful and significant experiences in these areas:
 
Ministry:  Prayer before and after practice and games, special CYO masses, attending mass as a team, and seeing their coaches and adult volunteers living their Gospel values through sports.
 
Sportsmanship:  CYO athletes and coaches demonstrate their Christian values on and off the field.  The way we treat each other, the opposing team, spectators, parents, and officials all reflect our Christian values.  CYO athletes and coaches work hard to demonstrate those values on and off the field.  We love to work hard and we love to win, but we want to do so in a way that brings honor to God.
 
Enjoyment:  The greatest success that a CYO coach can achieve is if their athletes discover and develop their God-given abilities.  Students stay engaged in sports when it is fun, and they leave sports when it is not fun.  We want our students to have a LOT of fun!
