Advent

November 29, to December 24
There are always 4 Sundays in Advent. The Advent Wreath devotion is very suitable for this season of preparation. Christmas decorations appear during Advent only in preparation for Christmas -- Christmas lights are not lit.

Christmas

December 24 (Vigil Mass) to January 10 (Baptism of the Lord)
The Christmas season, during which we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, includes the Feast of the Holy Family (December 27), the Feast of the Mother of God (January 1) and Epiphany (January 3). . The church remains decorated with Christmas lights and greenery during this season.

Ordinary Time

January 12 to February 16
During this season, the readings focus on Jesus' early ministry of teaching and healing and the gathering of disciples.

Lent

February 17 (Ash Wednesday) through April 3 (Holy Saturday)
This period of 40 days (not counting Sundays) is a time of penance observed with fasting and abstinence. The Stations of the Cross is a suitable devotion for Lent.

Easter Season

April 4 (Easter) through Pentecost (May 23)
This season is 50 days long. Ascension Thursday (May 13) is 40 days after Easter. Readings during the Easter season focus on Jesus' teaching after the resurrection.

Ordinary Time

May 24 to November 27
This year the readings for Ordinary Time are from the Gospel according to Mark. On the last Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King.
